Stroud Urban District Council
Seven New Members:
Mrs. Hills Heads the Poll
Three Old Members Defeated
With twenty-seven candiates for eighteen seats on the Stroud Urban District Council, the election, which took place on Monday 1 was one of the most interesting experianced in Stroud for many years. Up to tea-time polling was not very brisk, but in the evening large crowds of voters visited the polling booths and the polling clerks were kept very busy right up to 8 o'clock. The percentage of votors who exercised their right to vote is estimated at over sixty percent, which is quite a good proportion.
Counting tooking place at the Stroud Subscription Rooms on Tuesday morning under the supervision of Mr. E. Northam Witchell, the returning officer. The task was a difficult one and it was not until 3pm that the list was completed, and Mr Witchell was able to announce the results, as follows:-
